If you think Christmas can create magic, wait until you read this spell.

In a big hall mix several dozen craftspeople, place a dozen psychics and spiritual healers evenly throughout and back the whole thing to the sound of a live Celtic harp. The end result is a puppy’s life gets saved.

Now that’s real magic.

The Tree of Life Celtic Yule Show & Psychic Faire is the baby of Dot Wasilewski for the fourth year in a row and brings together all the elements of her life. “These are all the things I feel very strongly about, and exposing Ottawa to them is something I feel very passionate about,” says Wasilewski, who is a jewelry maker with fibromyalgia.

CelticHer main goal is to raise funds for animal rescue. Entry is by donation with 100 percent of the proceeds going to either Marshall’s Dog Rescue, Big Sky Ranch Animal Sanctuary or any other animal-oriented organization that people designate. Donation boxes will be at the entrance.

The fair takes place in Mac Hall at the Bronson Centre December 6 from 3pm to 7pm. Background information is available at its Facebook page.

So far there are 35 crafters involved. All share the same roots: earth-based spiritual art. Celtic themes (celebrating the historical pagan earth-based spiritual traditions of Yule from which Christmas is derived and in particular focussing on the artisan, spiritual, psychic and healing crafts that surround it) will be common because this is the community Wasilewski is part of. The psychics and healers will include practitioners from fortune tellers to Reiki. And then there will be Richard Hanna’s sublime Celtic/roots harp music.

Not only is Hanna an accomplished musician, he is a painter and playwright. His Melody Moore musical, multi-charactered comedy about Irish poet/singer Thomas Moore toured Europe and North America a couple of years ago. He will play 20-minute sets throughout the afternoon and early evening.

The fair has to be the most eclectic seasonal event around. No other brings together spirituality and the opportunity to save the lives of animals at risk. And who knows, maybe the psychics will see a puppy in your future.
